Aiko's hand verson 2 picture
Hi all
This is Aiko's right hand version 2.
Here is the new spec for the new hand.
1) Weight only 95g which is 1/3 of the weight of the old hand.
2) 2.5x more power and more torque.
3) 35% smaller than the old hand.
4) The fingers are small enough that it can type on a keyboard.
5) The palm of the hand is cable of bending. If add additional servo.
The glove you see is woman wedding gloves small size (s).
I was shopping in Japan a few months ago, it was nice so I bought it.
I mold the new hand from that gloves.
I will do a demo with the new hands in a few days.. thinking of McDonald or Wendy.

Very cool, but I don't think Aiko is old enough to drink sapporo.haha.
Can the hand support much weight? I mean carrying or holding something heavy?

Hi
The hand can carry the max size like apple.
As for the max weight 300g....

I was just wondering how you plan on implementing that hand unto aiko.
like are you gonna hollow out her silicon hand or just attach the raw metallic hand?

Those are some nice improvements over the old hands, from what I can see in those pictures that hand has just wires going out of it and that means it will be autonomous from the rest of the arm and just connected through wires at the hardware and at the battery, very cool.
When will you change the old one with the new one?

Hi
1) Initial Aiko will wear white glove, but later Aiko will have full silicone hand.
2) The wire goes out ... it attaches to micro controller, special sensors and battery.
I have to re-config the software with the new hand for Aiko and re-design the hardware a bit.

I thought that the hand's mechanism would be somehow linked with the arm's mechanism and they would work together ,those that made the film Terminator were wrong on how robotics will develop.
Can you make it control the force of the grip?
It's cool to see that technology has gone so far and aiko you're having a great contribution to the development of robotics.

Hi,
the reasons I designed the hand like that is because it is easier to replace the hand for repair.

He’s right though; having the arm work the overall strength of the hand like a real arm will greatly increase the power. You can still have the hand use mini controllers for precise work such as typing. But have a parallel set (like a steel wire that starts near the tip of a finger and goes all the way to the elbow.) of controllers that are used for forearm strength. You can then complement the power provided by the forearm with a second set that goes from just in-front of the elbow on the forearm side, wraps around the elbow and goes to the top of the arm where the shoulder is.
The power is provided by small electric motors that have to have a metallic “lock” gears system to be able to hold tension over time without burning out the gears.
You can still have a easily replaceable hand if you make all the connector pieces threaded bolts.

Hi
To tell the truth, I don't really like Aiko's version 2.....
Eventually, I will go back and redo version 3..... but that won't be down the road.

If it's fine by you, I might make a design base on what I said in the post above and model it in 3D for you.
With the model, you could see any design flaws or changes that would need to be made.
I might do it anyways as a side project. lol

(edit)
I'm sorry people, but posts like these are ridiculous. Please either grow up or go back to the "H" boards...
That said, the new hand looks fine right now. But I agree with the whole "arm=strength" issue. I hope Aiko ver. 3 not only is an improvement, but helps the end goal of having moving the robot towards being more human-like.

emm...I think make it a bit more smaller will makes Aiko-chan more cute, cause I think that's still a little too big for Aiko-chan (Everytime I saw it, I still think it is boy's)....Cause a cute girl has cute little hands too...This is only my opinion

You think you can give more details about the mechanics of the hand. I can see some of it but you really didn't say anything on how this hand works.

Re: Aiko's hand verson 2 picture
Well really I want to know how close is its functions to a human hand (meaning can it bend, wrap, pick up and grip things, etc.) and what kinda of system does it use. (meaning is gears inside the hand turning or is it a copper string that pulls the skeletal frame, etc.)
