.XXX: Good idea or bad?
Pro: It will make it easier for parents to block porn from their child.
Con: It will make it easier for the child to find porn in the first place.
Pro: Webmasters may opt to keep a .com address even if they are pornographic.
Con: .xxx may be registered at the same time as .com, keeping a pornographic mirror or "backdoor".
Pro: The parent can block it all or filter only some of the adult content.
Con: Adult content is not the same as pornographic, and censorship of content may be in the future.
Con: I keep going back to the days of black vs white, and the way blacks were treated when segregated.
There was a recent case of a black girl not allowed to sign up for certain classes at school based on the color of her skin, and how she got along with others because of her color.
She was also judged on the way she was raised, which was not a factor with the white kids.
If the xxx domain is just an attempt to segregate the Internet, is this really a good idea?
Who's to say what porn is anyway?
I don't think there is any such thing as porn.
Pornography dates back to ancient Egypt where they were open about their sexuality and would often have threesomes, foursomes, and full out orgies in their many brothels.
Pornography is commenting on society of the day, which falls under the heading free speech and artistic freedom.
The term pornography is a politically correct term for censorship or oppression, as it was seen as defamation of character and the fall of civilized society.
I'll break it down:
Nudity (adults) - free speech
Sexual Imagery (adults) - artistic freedom
Nudity (children) - free speech if not displayed and realistic, not distributed and realistic, or displayed or distributed but not real (with consent of drawing
)
Sexual Imagery (children) - artistic freedom if not real

Re: .XXX: Good idea or bad?
it'll make it easier to find the sites, and easier to block for parents. sure, it would be easier to find for the kids, but if they add a 'block all xxx sites' into parental controls, then problem solved.
of course, you could replace that with a selector bar that says 'block all sites not suitable for children of xx years old', where xx you could enter the child's age.
they 8 years old? then they don't really need to go on a site good for 15-year-olds.
then allow the parental controls to set certain sites as exemptions. like if they are 10, and they have an interest in DIY, then allowing instructables and such sites through might be good. nourish their interests while blocking inappropriate things. do this design well enough, or have it set up as software that allows internet access to programs, after determining what they want, so not only could a website be blocked, but those annoying 12-year-olds won't be playing Halo or L4D2. first, they shouldn't be playing M games, and second, they are the worst teammates ever. it's like people who got GTA for their 8 year old grandkids. they shouldn't have that.
or maybe parents could raise responsible children who will wait until they are legal to visit porn sites.
the idea itself is good. it could possible use improvement though.
we will need to see how it works out with xxx domains before we try to think of a way to fix it.

Too much trouble
This is meant to be a default setting or browser helper.it'll make it easier to find the sites, and easier to block for parents. sure, it would be easier to find for the kids, but if they add a 'block all xxx sites' into parental controls, then problem solved.

Something tells me Mozilla and IE won't go for doing all that, but I suppose it could be set up as a third party addon for the 2 browsers (including Opera), which can be improved with forum feedback.
Thanks for the reply.

hmmm... will read those articles though. if they don't give enough information, i suggest e-mailing any mentioned adult companies and asking why they have that boycott.
Did some digging.

We Call Bullshit On The Free Speech Coalition’s Position on .XXX: Our Exclusive Interview With The CEO Of .XXX
It's purely voluntarily to register to the .xxx domain (so far), however if you do, you can't go back to .com, .net, .edu, etc.
Let's say a porn site is an adult theater and store that hasn't changed for many years.
Imagine how it would be if you (the owner) were forced to lock up and urge customers to use the back door.
I was originally for this idea, but now I'm not so sure.
This domain is not only segregated with ICM rules and IFFOR enforcement, but has a premium access for the right price, which are two contradictions to Obama's Net Neutrality plans..
