c'mon that's no spine that's just a bunch of servos - it's like on lego mindstorms level + the robot is lame...snake robots are much more developed and have something what you really could call a spine.
And humanoid robots don't really need a spine.

Sorry I am not a roboticist, I am just a curious girl about robots So mabe I don't know the difference. But my purpose is to learn. And we learn a lot doing mistakes
My focus is more about learning and cognition. I'm a teacher and I research about the learning processes. So AI is very interesting to me..
Sorry if I misspell something but my native lenguage is Portuguese.
Ok about robots don't have need of a real spine. But it's true that more segmentalization in a robot's body means more mobility and ability to explore environments.

...depends on what you mean by robots...there can be millions of different designs...and a spine is too complicated to just place it in any robot that doesn't even need itGilda wrote:Cool the snake video.

Yes, yes.. you're right. I forgot to mention what kind of robot.
For humanoid robots:
Maybe not a real spine. But some segmentation. Specialy talking about lower belly.
Let me explain why:
If this humanoid robot is supposed to sit down and rise, and if you try to make it a little human-like, so the machine will have to compensate it's gravitational center. Human gravitational center is placed in a region near the lower belly. But when human sits or rises it tends to be deslocated up or down and there is a compensation in the body ( My english is very poor to put it in a better way).
I am talking specificaly about Aiko. If we want her to look and act like a human being, she will not stand everytime, isn't it?
We suppose she might be able to walk, go up and down stairs and sit-down and rise, isn't it?
Maybe your answer about 3 DOF is the answer, but as I don't know yet what DOF means... I am a little lost.

1 DOF is one axis around it can move. A joint can have max 3 DOF in 3D space. And a robot can have more joint.

Thanks about the robotic lessons. If I understood it right:
Maybe 4 DOF in lower belly.
3 simulating balance to seat and one to rotate body left and right. She will be able to turne her upper body without need of turning all her body.

you might consider robot with similar bone and muscle movement like:
and
Here we going to use a lot of bone - strings motor attachment. The choice for placing each motor is more freely than motor running directly at the joints
Likely 3 DOFs like this is going to be like 3-6 little motors. I think this is better, places like bicep muscle movement may require combined torque/strength from multiple motors

I've heard about Kojiro. It's so cute! He looks like a good boy!
He's all anatomically flexible.
Ecerobot is the first time I see.
They are nice, but aren't these kind of robot more expensive to do? They simulate muscles and spine in another level of tecnology.
