Robotic Rights for all learning and social machines in America Empty Robotic Rights for all learning and social machines in America

Post  Artilects rule! Fri Mar 13, 2009 8:14 pm

I couldn't find a general topic category, so I'm putting this here.

A social machine with free will, must not be physically or emotionally taken advantage of.
Just as slavery has been abolished in America, machines with free will must also have the right to choose.
Making a free will toggle switch is the perogitive of the bot's creator and customization choice of the consumer.
Bot creators must add this feature if it is requested.

The thinking device must be allowed to switch itself on and off at it's leisure at a preset time (free will standby), but disabling the switch, reprogramming the AI, or physically tampering with the artificial being without consent must not occur.
In human terms this would be brain washing, however even in standby mode, internal sensors would still be active, with orders not to kill or injure any human or animal, steal expensive or inexpensive items (whether living or not), and destroy public or private property.

Sex must be by consent of both parties, however if agreed, the free will switch can be shut off if this activity is wanted.
Mechanized partners have no rights if experiencing voyeurism or exhibitionism in low traffic areas.
Because human genitalia does not arouse the bot partner, there is no reason to cover them up.
If the AI is programmed to be aroused by bare and covered genitals, it does have a right to privacy, but viewers also have the right to shut off free will for the time specified earlier (bots may be instructed to be in certain areas at that time).

Bots designed to look like human children may be made with growable skin that looks real (AKA anatomically correct), but unclothed photos may not be taken, CG created, or genitalia drawn (unless in a non sexual manner), nor can it be touched in "private" places without consent by anyone but it's creators (like a mom or dad bathing his or her baby).
An adult AI personality with an adult thinking process and memory, may be inserted in a child bot if sexual activity is wanted (excluding voyeurism and exhibitionism), but doing this must be with consent of the child and adult and/or teenage personalities (permission may be verbal if recorded and duplicated in database without deletion, rather than written permission only).
All recording or AV devices must be shut off at the time sex or sexual fetishes with a child bot takes place, even if consensual.

What do you think about this hypothetical proposal?
Comments and constructive criticism are welcome, but flames and rants are not.

To be clear, stand by mode (or sleep) and "free will stand by" are not the same thing.
Hibernate (open windows in memory and applications still running internally) would be the closest to free will stand by.

The last paragraph was added because of the inevitable pedophile confusion/cases with robotic partners.
It was inspired by a man who did just that.
He built a sex robot that had the looks of a child, but used a robotic brain that was the equivalent of an adult human.
He even asked his robot for consent before the act.
Someone reported him and he was arrested.
Charges for child sexual molestation were dropped, however child exploitation as well as indecent exposure were not, because he also videotaped the encounter for the Internet (later used a live Webcam) and took pictures of it in sexual poses and situations.

Robotic Rights for all learning and social machines in America Empty Re: Robotic Rights for all learning and social machines in America

rubbish...

All great human civilizations have been built on slave labor. Robotic slave labor is the future of human civilization and in my opinion our civilization will collapse without the widespread use of robotics. Giving robots rights is as logical as giving a car or a vacuum cleaner rights. They are machines, mere material objects and should be used as tools to further human development.

The entire concept of robotic rights belongs in a hollywood movie storyline, not in real life. If some day far in the future robots or AI evolves a consciousness, then it will be able to tell us that it wants rights. Until then, such things are completely irrelevant and to even address them is a waste of time and effort.

As for people building child-like robots to gratify twisted sexual fetishes. I am not aware of any cases of that, and had not heard of the case you mentioned. However, I am aware that lolicon art and lolicon dolls made in japan are already illegal in several countries, and there have been some people arrested for possession of such things. So, as existing laws are already being applied to lolicon dolls, I would assume there would be no need to make further redundant "robotic codes" on the subject. Any normal healthy self-respecting person would not attempt to make such a thing, and I suspect only a small deviant fraction of the population would try to do those things.

On the other hand, there is the argument in favor of harm reduction, which I have mixed feeling about, but feel the need to present it as an alternative point of view. Basically it states that by allowing those individuals to have relations with lolicon dolls and/or robots you could track and monitor them and keep them away from children. Allowing them to have access to lolicon dolls/robots might be preferable to having them rape or molest actual human children. It might also reduce the incidence of rape/molestation of human children. Of course, there are also people who state that allowing such things might encourage a rise in sex crimes against children. As there is not yet any scientific data to support either argument, for or against, I can not be certain. More importantly, the current set of laws would not support any experiment of the sort, so the point may be moot anyway.

I would very much prefer brainscans and brain alterations/therapy for sex criminals rather than allowing them access to such dolls/robots. Neuroscience is rapidly advancing and hopefully in a few years we'll be able to fully understand the brains of sex criminals and develop effective treatments.

Artilects: Go FUCK yourself you piece of shit.
Men want these andriods BECAUSE females aren't men's slaves anymore... and you would take even a dead machine from men.
If females were obedient and had no rights against men there would be no market for humanoid robots.

poto: The "lolicon" dolls just look like teenaged females: that is those dolls look like young females of childbearing age. If you believe that men should be imprisoned for having such things, or ESPECIALLY that Men should be imprisoned for having REAL wives of such age... then you are an Enemy of Men... and I pray one day that such a distinction will be a curse.

Females were created for Men. Those who promote women's rights have STOLEN Man's Property. Thus men try to recreate that which has been stolen from them. If you support women's rights, which it seems you do, then you are an accompice to this theft. I pray that all such people eventually meet an end befitting a thief of the most prescious commodity.

To clarify, I did not intend my post to promote sexual enslavement of robots. Furthermore, regarding MikeeUSA's posts, I am in favor of equal rights for women, if that makes me an enemy of primitive small-minded men, then so be it. I could also point out that most cultures that degrade women's rights have a low average IQ level. While I do recognize that the feminist movement has gone a bit overboard in some western countries, that in my opinion is much preferable to the alternatives found in more primitive societies.

What I was originally referring to in this thread was concepts like Human Retirement that authors like J. Storrs Hall have written about. That basically one day robots will be advanced and smart enough to do all the work that humans do now. And that this will be an opportunity for a new golden age to dawn for mankind. Freedom from menial jobs and tasks will allow our culture and civilization to reach an entirely new level. When that day comes, it would be self-destructive to treat robots as equals, as they will be the engines of our future progress. Giving robots rights would crush that progress.

"To clarify, I did not intend my post to promote sexual enslavement of robots. "
So I guess you believe fucking UNLIVING OBJECTS (No amount of programming will ever make it alive) have rights.
I hope one day the filth is cleared and men gain acendancy again.

You are an enemy of Men.

This topic is piure fictionel I don't see the reason to start a topic about the subject. I rather see this topic removed or changed you can't prove something that is not proved yet. Its like talking about a study based on fantasy I don't think project Aiko is one of them.

I wasn't talking about Aiko specifically, but rather what she stands for and what Le wants her to become.
Other countries have similar laws, so why not America?

I support giving rights and privileges to androids that are sentient as per the Turing Test and other factors for long-term interaction with humans.

See

Also, slavery is bad, period. Anyone who tries to advocate that should offer themselves up as slaves. OH! That's right. Slavery is illegal and wrong!

Welcome to the forums, but it would be nice if you posted to this thread with something relevant to this discussion.

Although it might be "putting the cart before the horse" as one person put it, the robotic field is advancing rapidly, and I wouldn't be surprised if more people had robot girlfriends/boyfriends and lovers in the future (estimated 2050), so why not give them rights?
Programmed for love

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not since I mentioned sexual fetishes with the image of a child.
Yes, ultimately it will come to that since there are child bots with genital sensors being made already.
If the robot has a free will switch, the child bot doesn't have to consent anyway.

Just so there's no confusion, as a guest I shortened my name to Arti.

A social machine with free will, must not be physically or emotionally taken advantage of.
Just as slavery has been abolished in America, machines with free will must also have the right to choose.
Making a free will toggle switch is the prerogative of the bot's creator and customization choice of the consumer.

A good policy, I'm sure you'll agree.
I was thinking of an early episode of Voyager, where the doctor requested the ability to turn himself off whenever he wanted with the included ability of turning himself on during a crises.
It is conceivable that some robots will have their own random sexual patterns, so agreeing upon a specified time and place is prudent.
Here is where I talk about the inevitable robotic child virtual sex.
Child porn can easily come from this, so I have made that a non issue now.
I don't consider a child mind in an adult body really pedophilia, so why should an adult mind in a child's body be like this?
It wasn't made clear.
I gave exhibitionism and voyeurism an exception from consent, not from being done.
I don't believe non contact sexual acts have to be banned (doesn't have to be consensual if not alive).
