hi, everybody. remember me? i came back. how are you? fine i hope. and Aiko, i visit here to check it whether has any new functionality. it's a long time i've never seen all of you. i've just graduated. time goes so fast. it's so busy from the day i joined the robot contest and worked on graduation thesis. next month, i'll work for Renesas company. there's many things to do, but can't stop my interest about the robot human like.
Mr Le Trung, oneday, you'll go to Ho Chi Minh city, Viet Nam, right? I hope i can meet you that day. I have many close friends, also interested in your project. maybe, we can help you something. i also want to introduce you about our club that's organised for students. We're talking about you and ur Aiko so often. maybe, you can find there many other students like me, willing help you. We're from The Ho Chi Minh University of Technology. It's so great if you have an exhibition. We highly appreciated Aiko. Your robot can become an innovation in education, open a new trend in researching robot human like in our University in particular, and in VietNam in general.

Today, i just want to ask a question: how did Aiko process image to recognize human's faces? You wrote it by yourself or inherite from certain source? I want to write an image processing program that connect a webcam with a PC, process images this webcam take, and produce output: who is in the image.
give me a clue. please. thanks

Image processing Empty RE: Image processing

Post  Kthomp06 Sun Jan 31, 2010 3:16 pm

Hi Tomato, welcome back and congratulation on graduating. I have not seen Le on the forum for 3 weeks or so; I’ve tried emailing him last Monday but have not heard back from him yet. I’m hoping he is just busy or some thing and didn’t come down with a cold or some thing.
I do believe Le made the program for the video imaging him self. I did get an email from Le awhile back; he told me that a web camera did have a clear enough picture to do what he wanted to do. But if you are just starting out it is easier and cheaper to use a web camera. I think Le uses Visual Studio 2008 now to do his programming. He also told me that he was looking to buy a better pinhole camera for around $1800.
I find that a CCD camera works pretty well, but you will need a pci or pmci graphics card to be able to use the CCD camera plus the camera gets pretty hot. I don’t know if just graduated from high school or college, but if it was college and your student card is still good you may be able to down load a free copy of Visual Studio that is the way I got my copy. Then all you have to do is down load some source codes and do practices programs.
Here’s a link to down load source codes for Visual Basic and C++, the first program that you see on the Parallax Servo Controller is the one I wrote. I decided to share it because every one was having a problem getting it to work in vb6.

http://www.planet-source-code.com/vb/scripts/BrowseCategoryOrSearchResults.asp?optSort=Alphabetical&lngWId=1&txtCriteria=parallax+servo+controller&blnWorldDropDownUsed=TRUE&txtMaxNumberOfEntriesPerPage=10&blnResetAllVariables=TRUE

Source Codes

I hope this help.

Hi Tomato,
I didn't know that you are vietnamese from Saigon.
I am suppose to go Saigon during the Summer of 2010 for a TV interview.
Hopefully, I will get the chance to go to your university club.

There are many open source for face recognition, but there are not as good.
You either have to mass modified it or program your own.

The way I did it was to use matrix for the face.

Sorry, been busy. I am back log in forum posting and email.
I went back to school. Apparently, 11 years in university is not enough. Going for another 4 more years.
Going back to school for Medical school.
I hopefully I can find a decent job when I graduate this time.

I have also been off this forum for most of a year. Just checked in on impulse. First tell us about your graduation thesis or project. Did our help from here do you much good? Will your new job involve robots or artificial intelligence? Things are happening so fast now. I am certain a lot will happen with robots and AI in the next 5 years. Very soon your netbook or Ipad may talk to you. Regarding face recognition, yea there are a lot of programs out their now, some with very different algorithms and optimised for different applications. many of the more expensive web cams come with face recognition (Logitec) and even have API kits you can down load. I follow these developments because I am interested in EMOTION recognition to improve avatar 'acting' performance. BTW you see AVATAR? one word AWSOME!! btw2 for a quick english translation go to google.com, click more tab, and then language tools. Now there is some practical AI you can use now for free! Tell us more about how you would like to use face recognition and perhap we can find you one optimised for your application.

For accurate translation use: Translation Aggregator
It's freeware
and it grabs translations automatically for various online machine translations.
it also has to ability to automatically insert text you copied to your clipboard.

*Recommended: You can combine it with the translation program Atlas too (not freeware)
but if you have it will use it too. (if installed off course)

I think I'll also go to medical school or mechanical engineering aside from what I'm doing now(faculty of banks and finances) but now that you've gone to medical school you'll not have time to improve Aiko(after med school comes residency-no spare time for the next 8 years for you). Oh well , at least you've gone this far, you've inspired a lot of people, I loved to follow the progress of Aiko, nice knowing you, maybe after you finish med school you'll go into research and not residency and have the time to improve Aiko then and with new knowledge .

Let your optimism be an example to us all. I have never met someone whose skills might extend from banking and finance to engineering, brain surgery, et al. Truly, you must be a prodigy and renaissance man. Perhaps your parents could afford to fund your next foray into "worthless internet postings". I'm sure they would be proud.

It seems you have absolutely no idea what med school is and you post stupid comments ,I'm right to be pessimistic because I know about med school and it's not a university during which you'll have the time to attend the courses, laboratories, learn at home, eat, shit Smile etc and also develop a robot like Aiko, I do hope he'll continue develop Aiko at a good pace but I'm pessimistic.

Right now I'm working hard to earn moneys and also I'm attending long distance learning banks and financing at a private owned university(long distance learning at a private university in my country(Romania) means you can finish the university quite easy) I'm doing it to improve my CV and not to have a gap year in my studies Wink until I have enough moneys to go to a serious state owned university like med school or engineering(undecided).
