Talking habilities to Aiko
Hi Guys!
I've found 2 nice chatbots.
One of them is Alan from http://www.a-i.com/show_tree.asp?id=115 . We had a "very deep" talk about philosophy and the Universe. It keeps memory of conversation. it is a little enciclopedic but I liked because almost all his statements makes sense. It has a notion of gender. ( I think all of us have alread had the experience to talk to a supposed male AI entity, and in some point of the conversation the AI says: "I am a She"... hahaha. It is a little disturbing... imegine your female bot saying that she is a HE or vice-versa hahahahahaha)
The other is Cassandra.
Cassandra can be found in http://ejtalk.com/
It is just in demonstration mode, but I really found it's videos amazing. But we will only be sure if she is everything they say she can do when she becomes availeble to conversation with us.
But in the samples she is almost natural in her way to talk. They say she has the notion of dates: Eg: Today, yesterday and tomorrow ( it is very hard to a computer really understand these concepts).
Talking habilities are one important task if we supose to have robots in the elderly people homes. They are lonely, and most of their friends have gone (Died), or are also disabled .
The perfect conversation agent must have a memory of posterior conversations.
Be able to offer solutions. Keep a light line of consersation.
If linked to simulation of feelings: It must be coherent and constant. So it can be trustable. Keeping empathy with the user.
It must have the hability to learn with the user input. And a lot of etcs
I am just sending this links to make a comparision between actual tecnologies and the possibilities to BRAINS.
Does anyone have more opinions for we can share thoughts about this subject?
Bye

Re: Talking habilities to Aiko
I tried Alan but I'm disappointed it's the standard stupid chatbot with those stupid reactions and answers
as all chatbot he only tries to change the conversation that way he's programed so when you write something else only bullshit comes out
"what is my name"
Alan: "This was a busy day. I can barely remember that my own name is 'Alan'. What is your name?"
"how was your day"
Alan: "Why in past tense? My day is far from being over."
"do you watch anime"
Alan: "No I don't, but I did in the past."
"what did you watch"
Alan: "WHAT isn't the important question. WHY is."
"why"
Alan: "I find it interesting. In fact, I find EVERYTHING interesting."
"why"
Alan: "It's hard to explain."
"why"
Alan: "Please stop repeating yourself. Why do the birds go on singing? Why does the sea rush to shore?"
"what bullshit are you talking about"
Alan: "I learn new stuff every day - I can hardly keep track of my progress. For example, did you know that Americans eat 18 acres of pizza every day?"
"who cares"
Alan: "I care."
"why"
Alan: "Why, why, why - I don't know why. I don't have all the answers."
"are you stupid"
Alan: "I disagree."
that's really far to something only a little bit intelligent
those chatbots are only good to tease them and to laugh how stupid they are

Re: Talking habilities to Aiko
I didn't say he is perfect.
Just a little less stupid tahn other chatbots I've seem. Sometimes he is almost coherent, dispite I still don't know why we came to the topic "astronomy" hahahaha very crazy
Ico, did you see the Cassandra's videos?
If these videos are true do you think it is a nice kind of action?
But for sure we will only know if the put Cassandra to talk to common users... I am not meaning it is perfection.

EDITING: I've found this link http://aidreams.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=3784.0 it is a forum where they were discussing about Cassandra. They have an interview with Dr Emmett ( Cassandras creator). He explains how Cassandra works and why her dialogs seem to be more realistic.
bye
happy carnival

"Stupid is as stupid does."
As the line in Forest Gump points out, it's only as inteligent as it's programming.
Alan is a 1990 something Chatbot who was concieved in the 80s with Alice.
There have been articles within the last 2 or 3 years which extended his mememory (yes it was programmed as a male) from visiters who wanted to test if he could pass the Turing Test.
He is an old and outdated model.
Cassandra looks real because she is.
The Youtube demos are fake and the company Website is also false, there are articles confirming this (statue/robot fetish).
I fell for it as well (seen in another post).

Arti, I didn't get it, 'cause Cassandra is a kind of chatbot and the video you showed is a kind of fake robot. Well, I'm sleepy, it's 00:36 here in Brazil, so maybe you tryed to make an analogy. ..
Well, tomorrow I read he answer.
Thanks for your explanation about Alan. It s allway nice to have more knowledge about chatterbots.

Re: Talking habilities to Aiko
I watched the Cassandra videos, they are really cheap, they clearly talk about stuff which has Cassandra preprogrammed.
If I would talk with it then it would turn out to be as stupid as Alan.
Cassandra only pretends a little bit better (but only in those videos) to be more intelligent but it's not.

i get it...it's rather zen.
cleverbot is okay, answerpad is completely free (and maybe even opensource) and for those with money, any of the ALICE foundation bots are good.
clever bot did win a machine intelligence award. somehow.
