Finaly AIST made a Male robot
AIST released Actroid F's brother.
Here is the video
Actroid F and Kurokawa ( yes, this the male bot's name) share the same face, so thei can be called "twins".
But I am a little suspicious to say that the male robot looks better...

Re: Finaly AIST made a Male robot
given how they described its functions, isn't actroid more of a really advanced puppet?
Ah well, it's nice to see that actroid seems to have lost her baby eating smile, but also gained a brother, just like geminoid.

yep. I agree with you Discoman.
Nowadays Actroid is more like a puppet.
But I think AIST is working in 2 fronts:
Actroids and HRPs.
HRP-4c is now able to walk in an almost human gait.
And Actroids are being used to develop interactions robots X humans, and also AI. ( I am not sure about the AI part)
So the natural path is to - in a closer future - put both researches in only one project.

Re: Finaly AIST made a Male robot
I think geminoid and hrp and such are university robotic projects.
Apart from aiko, actroid is the only android/gynoid that was developed by a company. Humanoids are a bit more plentiful. Looh at...I just forgot the names, but Toyota and Honda both made robots in humanoid form factors.
Bst way I can see to combine them would be to have the companies sponsor the universities, and in turn, receive lots of publicity and all.
University gets funding, students get to learn, robotics gets advanced as a science, people decide to study the sciences, and those same people go to work for the company that sponsored their grad school rovotics. And the companies benefit by getting people interested in working for them and they get lots of publicity.
Combining the two is a good idea. Comonaies generally have enough no ey to throw at problems that a walking android/gynoid could be made rather quickly. Now, the brains behind it...that is another story.
