Click here to see the article
Lee Trung you lost the race, someone else has made a fembot to walk before you.
From that article it says that the fembot will walk at a fashion show in Tokio next week so next week we should have a video with it, I can't wait.
But Lee have you started working on Aiko's walking capabilities?

Video of her walking is already out. I watched it yesterday, neat stuff.

Re: Female Robot HRP-4C to Walk Japanese Catwalk
Thanks for the video, I was very curious about it.
That one has just 1700 views in 1 day but this one has 250.000 in one day!!! now that's a big interest for something.
https://www.youtube.com/v/brD5D0ytD04
And here a another article about this fembot
They said that it took them 2 million $ to develop that robot, I guess most of it took to pay the researchers.

Only 2 million dollars..... wish I have that kind of money.
Supported by the Japanese government... can't beat that.
Wish the Canadian government will do the same, instead of "we don't fund" basement work.
Good job to the HRP robot.

yeah indeed, besides comparing the two projects, Le is developing the whole project by himself with little financial support while the other one (which i didn't find as realistic as Aiko) has Japan's financial support.
I guess it will be kind of hard for Le to get financial support from Canada, especially now with that "economic crisis" phenomenon, but since you do something to complete your dream you won't have a problem... Its not that hard if you try doing something you really enjoy ^^.

Yeah, i wish i can do such a thing, but i hope i can realize my Persocom project, its only virtual, but i think i can make this.
When you make some real thing like Aiko, you need much money for the Hardware, the Software is a thing, that need time and talent too but not much money, when you can do the most yourself.
I think a really good Persocom like in Chobits need not more that much time (some months ago i sayed it needs 10-20 years, now i think ~10 years), that shows the famebot in this thread, the goal is reached. The only thing is now to optimize all and make it better. The most comes alone in the next years, more computer power with less power consuming, better sensors and better motors for the movements, better batteries. All things came from alone, while other industries also are interested to make this things better. I think the software is the most work to do in the next years, to make better AIs and this robots usefuller.

Re: Female Robot HRP-4C to Walk Japanese Catwalk
By the way, i was wondering what kind of hardware are needed. I mean, well, are the ones used right now commercial or specially designed? I took a look of a mainboard and a processor's cooler on some pics on the main site but i couldn't guess what they could be..
Since BRAIN is such a complicated application i wouldn't be stunned the processor power need is high as well..
But i guess that the new type of processors (atom from intel's side and the new all-in-one Sempron U200series) will help a lot on both electric power/processing power and weight/mobility as well.
Forget about the antigravity system that the persocoms used cause it needs not only much power but also stable current to work . At least until nuclear batteries or crystals or something gets invented XD.
I would like to know exactly the specs of the computer in Aiko though

Re: Female Robot HRP-4C to Walk Japanese Catwalk
The computer hardware from Aiko is changed permanently, i think thats why there are no detailed infos.
Re: Female Robot HRP-4C to Walk Japanese Catwalk
indeed but i don't even have a hint about what we are talking about :S
Actually i was wondering if there will be a high end graphic card with a nice tv out or why not a HDMI out to play the latest games XD A XP partition on Aiko's hard drive wouldn't be that bad after all
and after all the high end hardware would help in gaining the normal 36,6c Aiko's body needs to be perfectly realistic
And although i Am actually kidding, the idea of a gaming "persocom" or whatever isn't that bad

Do i hear a challenge.
Whats this whining I hear?.
Is someone here up to a challenge
for buillding a better then a 2 million
android goverment funded BIG HANDS BOT.
I dare YOU I double dare you no contest.
Complaining is for sissy boy's.
I could do that better a Scrap Yard Prototype walking android Torso.
In seven months.
Here in holland we have enough material of biped walking structure.
You can call me crazy but as RgSluimer has shown with the walker link
creativity is a key process to discover how motion can be stable.
Ps that robot looks cool but its no different then all the others.
it walk like an old men with bad hips that wil be a sexy model whooo.

I remember Lee saying about the hardware that the robot has, it has a VIA C7 and a Core 2 duo( 2 main boards), the BRAINS software uses only CPU not GPU so graphic board is integrated.
But because of over heating inside, the core 2 duo's motherboard broke a few months ago, I guess now it has only the C7 inside and outside he has to link it to his laptop that has also a Core 2 duo.
He stopped the development of the B.R.A.I.Ns software after he added a another visual system because the processor(C2D) was running at 99%.
When the C2D M.B was still working the software was kept on a SSD that was integrated on that M.B.
Basically the robot is made of several servo-motors linked to micro controllers that in turn are linked to the two M.B through the I/O ports I think.

Re: Female Robot HRP-4C to Walk Japanese Catwalk
Hi
Kal-el.... yes you are correct with the motherboard spec..... Aiko's mainboard die out... so I just link to my laptop to save money.
Idealy, intel is coming out with a new Core i7 with 32nm soon.... it shhould be cooler.... and hopefully, cheaper than the current cpu and motherboard.
The mainboard that die out on Aiko cost about $900...... what a waste of money, but hopefully the newer one will be cheaper....
Also, solid state HD is dropping in price slowly..... which is good news too.

Don't get your hopes high, same was said at every node improvement, from 130nm to 90nm, from 90nm to 65nm etc but eventually even though the distance between the nanowires(that's what on 45nm means) decreased, they just put more transistors in it so the heat output remained the same around 90W.
And I wanted to let you know about a new cooling system that is being developed for CPU,click here for article, with this you might cool the CPU better so that it doesn't burn the M.B again, it's also silent and has no moving parts(perfect for a robot),that thing is very simple and cheap so it should be on the market this year.

Re: Female Robot HRP-4C to Walk Japanese Catwalk
Huh, really its a shame for the mobo... I guess the guarantee isn't working here... Anywayz, since temperature is a problem, why don't u use something like Atom instead of c2d which is much more hot..
Well Atom N270 at 1,6ghz isn't that powerful but with 1-2 (i guess a smaller mobo means more (visually at least) space for hardware. Why don't u take a look of Asus's EEE boxes? something like that would be good i guess... After all Nehalems' turned out to be really hot, even 32nm's won't really do any good for this specific situation. Which C2D model was it? (why not C2Q btw? Q6600 isn't good? )
and finally indeed the SSD's are performing a free fall right now in prices (at last) There are plenty of 120gb's with less than 200$ ^^.

Re: Female Robot HRP-4C to Walk Japanese Catwalk
By the way, the way this "funded" 2million android has a hell of a weird way to walk and to stand (especially the hands position ^^) so i guess the 2 millions didn't worth...WulfCry wrote:Whats this whining I hear?.

OMFG lololol now you mention it indeed XD the hands are balancing this shit XD. It makes it clearly much more hilarious now XDWulfCry wrote:

[edit] i was wondering what if they switched the young female style to an old male and give him a dunno a wooden stake or something to keep the balance XD. It WILL look much more realistic then
Re: Female Robot HRP-4C to Walk Japanese Catwalk
It has big hands in order for it not to be uncanny.
They said that they'll improve her walk, move the hands, be able to do some house work.
They're selling them, 200.000$ a piece, that's just astronomically over priced but when you have monopoly you can charge whatever you want for it.
And also they said that they'll make her programming public so that others can come up with movements for her.

Re: Female Robot HRP-4C to Walk Japanese Catwalk
oh great, why would i want to spend 200.000 on a shit which does practically nothing at all? >_< i just don't get it.. It can barely move, i wonder if there is a guarantee or something in case it lost balance and fall -_-
Re: Female Robot HRP-4C to Walk Japanese Catwalk
It's not for the average consumer, it's only for big fashion companies to use them as fashion models, a woman fashion model costs enormous, with these robots they would save huge amounts of money but this only when it will move more realistic not now.
That's just the first prototype, they said that they'll improve her in every way soon, hopefully they'll make her walk more realistic because now it walks like a penguin

And don't forget that all new product arts not cheap in the beginning. When they gets in mass production, the price will drop, but that takes years before this products are mass compatible. I think 200.000$ at this time is not that expensive.

I see well she got these BIG HANDS and its really uncanny, If for ever what reason she has been programmed for a Bitch-Fit
She would SLAP her owners *SS to the other side of the room just because it was funny to program her that way by the engineers.
Never pinch a fembot behind while she cleans eah?
The price well 200.000 I rather have a nice beach house at a tropical island with bikini girls running around for some beach volleyball,
then a android girl with BIG HANDS giving me the looks for the obvious . SLAP SLAP.
Anyway maybe by a stroke of luck the newer Aiko be more slender and gracefully then that overpriced piece of over aged tech.
I mean look closer you really think that android was build to do some modeling I think not they gradually gave it that purpose because
they new people will react to that more closely because of the term (female modeling android).
Rather then say look what we can let it do now "Soon you can own your household android".
Yah Ice cream anyone.

Re: Female Robot HRP-4C to Walk Japanese Catwalk
yeah but still i don't think that the great fashion houses would like a "penguin" styled robot to show off their products XD.
Really now, that 200k price is a epic fail at the stage the robot is right now.
Improvement is their problem and paying is ours. Why should we pay or anyway a company, for a product which is like that at this specific moment? Its not like "rapidshare" which says u pay 50$ for # months and you get all the updates that will materialized till then. You get what you pay for NOW and nothing such as upgrades are going to be given to you even if you wait till the final version...
really now i see this robot as a waste of money for absolutely no reason the way it is right now...
Also i remember myself having the same type of stance while "hurrying" to the toilet XD (am i satanically bad right now or is it my imagination? ^^)

For advertising is the robot perfect. He ensures for attention and that is the goal for this people. The usefulness as a robot is just secondary.
